As announced at the last meeting, the monthly Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition meeting that would normally take place this Wednesday, June 11 has been CANCELED. The next Coalition meeting will take place at our regular time at 9:30 -11:30 PM, July 9, 2014 at the VT Center for Independent Living. This month’s meeting was canceled because of the New England Housing Network’s annual trip to DC, which takes place tomorrow and Wednesday. We will be meeting with high level congressional and administration staff about the HUD and USDA Rural Development budgets and numerous policy issues. The briefing paper on housing and homelessness that we will be delivering can be read here: Affordable Housing: A New England Perspective. There will be a full report on the trip at the July meeting. Please note that the Senate Appropriations Committee voted out its THUD budget last week. Though there are a number of disappointments on the funding levels, the Senate bill is much better than the disastrous House version, which is being considered by the full House today and tomorrow. For a summary of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s action, read: NLIHC analysis and CBPP blog post.
