Stowe Reporter: Affordable housing pinch gets tighter

By: Lisa McCormack, Stowe Reporter Thursday, August 9, 2012. Sandy Neely knows how to stretch a dollar. She has no other option. Since June, Neely has helped 135 people facing homelessness or eviction since June. As a crisis coordinator with Central Vermont Community Action Council in Morrisville, she had a total of $2,798 to help them pay security deposits on new apartments, catch up on overdue rent, or spend a night in a hotel rather than a car. “Where does that get me? Hardly anywhere with anyone,” Neely said of the state and federal funding her office receives for emergency housing. “There’s just not enough money to meet the need.” Link to Full Stowe Reporter Article PDF of Full Stowe Reporter Article
