April is Fair Housing Month!

April is Fair Housing Month! Fair Housing is the right to equal opportunity in housing choice and the right to rent or buy a dwelling free from discrimination. The federal Fair Housing Act passed into law in April 1968, and every year we celebrate its anniversary to underscore its continued importance to our communities and neighbors.

Join the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO, ONE Arts Center, and other partners to celebrate April Fair Housing Month with events all over Burlington.

From the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO:

The Fair Housing Month Kick-Off & HeART & Home Opening Reception is April 2 from 5-7pm at the ONE Arts Center, 72 N. Champlain St. with art, food, community, a special proclamation from Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, and lots of information about fair housing rights and resources.

“HeART & Home: Celebrating Inclusive Communities” events include an art contest, exhibitions of local artists at ONE Arts Center, Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, Old North End Community Center, and Fletcher Free Library; art workshops for all ages focused on celebrating home in our inclusive community; and workshops from partner organizations on landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities.

Most of the month’s events are free, with sliding-scale fees for a few of the workshops. For a full calendar of April Fair Housing Month events, visit www.thrivingcommunitiesvt.org/fair-housing-month or call 802-660-3456 x 110.
