French is a resident of Decker Towers in Burlington, VT. His story begins as a young child growing up in Brooklyn, NY living with his grandparents, and takes many twists and turns that finally lead French to his first true home in Burlington.
An autodidact, French found one of his first "homes" in the Brooklyn Public Library. Surrounded by books and a vast world of knowledge, he was able to escape a family addled with addiction.
This three-part series takes you through French's struggles with drugs and alcohol as well as his many triumphs. We hope you enjoy French's story of Home.
French is an active member of the Burlington Community. He serves as the resident representative on the Burlington Housing Authority's Governing Board, and to use his words, he's "no token" representative. French is a fierce advocate for affordable housing in Vermont, having personally experienced how important it can be to people who just can't afford a home at market rate. We've gotten to know French through our organizing efforts at Decker Towers, where he is an active member of the Decter Tower Tenants Association. We're very grateful to French for sharing his story with us.
