Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition elects three new members to Steering Committee

The Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition announces the election of three new members to the Coalition’s Steering Committee. Elected at the annual meeting, John Broderick, Sara Kobylenski, and George Mathias will be serving on the VAHC Steering Committee for 2012/2013. The Coalition’s Steering Committee serves as its board of directors. John Broderick, At Large Member John has been the Executive Director of the Regional Affordable Housing Corporation (RAHC) in Bennington since January of 2009. Before that, he served as State Advocacy Director for the Supportive Housing Network of New York in Albany. From 1998 to 2004 he was the Executive Director at Flatbush Development Corporation in Brooklyn, and prior to that, Director of Government and Community Relations for Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City. He began his housing career as a tenant organizer in the Bronx. He was a former steering committee member of the NYS Campaign for Mental Health Housing. He is currently a board member and state legislative liaison for LeadingAge Vermont. Sara Kobylenski, At Large Member Sara has served as the Executive Director of The Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction since 2009. She became involved in the housing world as a result of her four years as AHS Field Services Director for the Hartford District, from 2005 through 2009. For 35 years prior to that, she worked with families and children in almost every aspect of social services. The issues of poverty and opportunity were always present in that work. She has an MSW from the University of Pennsylvania. In the community, Sara serves on the Boards of Vermont Parent Representation Center, Alice Peck Day Hospital, and Mascoma Savings Bank. She also serves on the Justice for Children Task Force and the Standing Committee on Family Rules of the Vermont Supreme Court. George Mathias, At Large Member George joined Gilman Housing Trust, Inc. in 2004, and is the Chief Operating Officer of the community development corporation, with holdings of over 600 units of affordable housing and commercial properties, a NeighborWorks® Homeownership Center program, property management services, and resident support services, including the powerful new SASH program. He is responsible for directing all lines of business in this 40-person organization serving Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties. Before coming to GHT, George owned a Vermont business management company with high-tech corporate clients across the country. He served on the boards of Northern Counties Health Care, Caledonia Home Health and Hospice, Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, and Catamount Arts. John, Sara, and George join Ted Wimpey, Chair, Chris Donnelly, Vice-chair, Terry McKnight, Treasurer, Julie Lowell, Secretary, and Harold Nadeau, At Large Member, on the Steering Committee.
