Contractors gear up for new rules on lead

Williston, Vermont – March 28, 2010

With nearly 38 million homes in the U.S. that still contain lead-based paint, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued rules on remodeling older homes to reduce contact with the deadly chemical.

Next month, the EPA will implement new work practice standards for remodelers of older homes in an effort to reduce lead paint exposure, especially among children. [More ...]

VHCB offers assistance for compliance with new EPA lead paint rules

“Despite the efforts of VHCB and others to convince AHS/Health Dept. to integrate the RRP rule into Vermont’s lead paint regulations, it appears increasingly unlikely that this will happen any time soon.  Since the RRP rule takes effect this coming April 22nd, this means that both state and federal lead paint regulations will have to be followed independently.  [More ...]

Attorney General Taking Action to Reduce Lead Hazards in Chittenden and Washington Counties

“Twenty-seven landlords in Chittenden and Washington Counties are the recipients of letters from the Office of Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell requesting that they demonstrate compliance with the Vermont lead law. Attorney General Sorrell announced today that his office recently mailed the letters requesting information on rental properties built prior to 1978.
