The 2009 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress

The total number of homeless persons in America dropped slightly between 2008 and 2009, although the number of homeless families increased — almost certainly due to the ongoing effects of the recession. HUD recently released these data as part of The 2009 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress — the fifth in a series that provides both snapshots of homeless persons on a given night in 2009 (usually at the end of January) and a year-long assessment. HUD awards Vermont CoC funding

“The Vermont State Housing Authority announced the Vermont Balance of State Continuum of Care (CoC) was awarded $120,780 in homeless assistance as part of an annual competition from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The award provides housing subsidies to eligible participants of a new Shelter Plus Care: Sponsor-Based Program.

Rutland Housing Authority pushes for federal funding

“The Rutland Housing Authority is meeting with federal Housing and Urban Development officials this week to determine what it can do to secure more than $6 million in funding for Forest Park.

Kevin Loso, RHA executive director, said he was headed to Washington, D.C., to get debriefed by HUD officials on what his organization can do better this July when it reapplies for $6.6 million in federal funding, known as HOPE VI Revitalization money. [More ...]

HUD Releases AHAR

On June 16, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the 2009 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress. According to the fifth annual report, levels of homelessness in the United States stayed essentially the same between 2008 and 2009. Data showed a ten percent reduction among people experiencing chronic homelessness, but a rise in the number of families seeking shelter. [More ...]

HUD gives providers pre-notice of available funds
