Manchester Habitat for Humanity project given Act 250 permit

MANCHESTER – The state has granted an Act 250 permit for a long-term project that could see up to 22 units of affordable housing built by the Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity.

“EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y.—A dozen female volunteers gathered recently in this blue-collar Long Island town, enduring the heat to help form the entryway of an 1,100-square foot home for Cheri Sabolenko and her two young children.

The Sabolenko house will soon join more than 5,000 other homes expected to be built, repaired and rehabilitated in the U.S. this year by a well-known addition to the upper echelon of America’s largest home builders: the nonprofit group Habitat for Humanity International. [More ...]

Habitat for Humanity accepts applications

SPRINGFIELD- The Greater Springfield Vermont Area Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for a home that will be built in Springfield this summer.

To qualify, applicants must show a very specific need for decent affordable housing. They must have a household income of no more than 60 percent and no less than 45 percent of the county’s U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s median income, according to the size of the family. For example, income limits for a family of four are between $28,725 and $38,300…”

Charlotte to hold housing celebration

Groundbreaking for the first Habitat for Humanity homes in Charlotte deserves a festive event, a group of residents decided.

Since January, a dozen people have met to plan ways to involve community members in the building process. They will host a picnic supper with jazz-inspired music Friday at the Old Lantern on Greenbush Road, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking for the first home. The group is looking for a parcel of land on which to build a new house or a house that can be rehabilitated in Andover, Rockingham, Cavendish, Chester, Grafton, Ludlow, Weathersfield or Weston. Any property donated to Habitat for Humanity is eligible for a tax credit. [More ...]
