VT Legal Aid Food Drive in Memory of Edna Fairbanks-Williams

Vermont Legal Aid food drive in memory of long-time poverty advocate and VLA Board member Edna Fairbanks-Williams.

VT Legal Aid is inviting community members, advocates, and lawyers to visit one of their offices across the state to make a contribution.

Contributions will be accepted from Monday, November 15 through Friday, November 19.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to VT Legal Aid’s food drive can drop off canned or other nonperishable foods at one of the following locations:

Burlington – 264 N. Winooski Ave.
Montpelier – 7 Court St.
Rutland – 57 North Main St.
St. Johnsbury – 177 Weston Ave.
Springfield – 56 Main St., Suite 301
Waterbury – 121 S. Main St.

Poverty fighter dies in car crash

“When Edna Fairbanks-Williams found herself abandoned with five young children almost 50 years ago, she accepted a friend’s loan to buy an old Ford, then made the money back driving around scrubbing other people’s cottages and sewing other people’s clothes.

“My friend said, ‘Give it to someone else that could use it,’” she recalled after trying to repay the favor. “I did, and I’ve been doing it ever since.” [More ...]
