“Timothy Emerson, a senior architecture student, was browsing mynorwich.edu when a notice, “drawing and drafting help needed,” caught his eye. He sent off an e-mail, not realizing that the project he was getting into was going to be more than just drafting help.

Emerson, in cooperation with the First Nations Native American Student Association of Norwich University, is working on a project to build affordable, environmentally friendly homes for reservations across the country. [More ...]

Legislative Day – VT Housing & Conservation Coalition

February 16, 2011, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, State House, Montpelier

Please set aside Wednesday, February 16th as a day that you and your organization’s key supporters will spend in Montpelier talking and advocating in the Legislature on the importance of funding for the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board to your organization and the communities it serves.  Conservation and affordable housing are critical economic development investments that must remain a priority throughout the challenges of the state’s ongoing fiscal crisis.

Homeless Memorial Vigil & Legislative Day

Legislative Day:  9:00 AM – 3 PM in the Card Room, State House, Montpelier
Vigil:  12:00 PM -1:00 PM on the State House Steps, Montpelier

The state’s homeless shelters and service providers will gather for their annual Legislative Day and Vigil at the State House.  The Vigil will commemorate the thousands of Vermonters who received housing and/or services this past year.  Both before and after the Vigil, advocates will discuss with Legislators the needs of Vermonters who are homeless and at risk and what can be done for those others who aren’t able to receive these services.  Sponsored by Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness

Governor Douglas announces $662,000 in community development grants

Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground in Essex

“There was a ground breaking Monday for a new affordable housing project on Susie Wilson Road in Essex.

Funding for the more than 5.5 million dollar project came from a variety of sources including a federal grant that Senator Bernie Sanders helped to secure. Snyder Homes is building the apartments and will sell them to the Champlain Housing Trust and Housing Vermont. The Cedar’s Edge Apartments are being constructed to the VHFA’s Green Building standards and will nearly double the number of affordable rental units in Essex. [More ...]

VT receives 250 Housing Choice Vouchers from HUD

Vermont received 250 housing choice vouchers (HCV) from HUD’s Rental Assistance for Non-Elderly Persons with Disabilities Program. These housing assistance vouchers  aid in enabling persons with disabilities to access affordable housing. Barre Housing Authority received 50 and Vermont State Housing Authority received 200.
