On Thursday, April 9, 2015. Vermont Housing Managers Association (VHMA), Granite State Managers Association (GSMA) and New England Affordable Housing Management Association (NEAHMA) are co-sponsoring a one day training. The training is 504 Coordinator Training with Debbie Piltch. This training will examine Federal requirements to provide persons with disabilities reasonable accommodation throughout the occupancy cycle. It will shed light on the confusion regarding what a housing provider’s legal obligations are in the area of reasonable accommodation, discuss how state and local law may have an impact on a site’s obligation, and review the role of a 504 coordinator in general and in the context of reasonable accommodations as well as the 504 grievance procedure.
The training will be held at the Fireside Inn & Suites in West Lebanon, NH. The cost is $125 per person if you register before Friday, February 27th; after February 27th the cost will increase to $150 per person. Non-membership rate is $200 per person. The cost of the registration also includes lunch.

The trainers include Mark E. English, one of the nation’s leading training specialist regarding accessibility issues that involve ADA, Section 504, and The Fair Housing Amendments Act; and Scott P. Moore, who has provided consultation and representation of the housing industry and is widely recognized for his experience in housing law and his work with the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and USDA/Rural Development.

Vermont Resident Service Coordinators will be having their next membership meeting on Wednesday, March 19. Prior to the membership meeting a special training by Ginny Sassman will be offered on Nurturing Happiness Relationships. The event is being co-sponsored by Vermont Housing Managers Association, Vermont Housing Finance Agency, Bennington Housing Authority, and Shires Housing.

Many activities involved in property maintenance present hazards to those performing the maintenance activities. On Wednesday, January 29 the Vermont Housing Managers Association (VHMA) will be offering a one-day training with Daniel Whipple on Vermont’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA).
VOSHA Program Manager Daniel Whipple’s presentation will introduce the “focus four” that is the four hazards that are responsible for 90 percent of all contrsruction related fatalities. Those hazards include falls, struck by, caught in/between and electrical hazards. In addition, the training event will focus on chemical hazards and the new December 2013 requirements under the Hazardous Communication Standard and Globally Harmonized System of classifying, labeling and informing workers of the existence of hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
