ENOSBURG FALLS, Vt. —

“The Pleasant Street Apartments in Enosburg Falls were recently renovated and offer lots of green features. Tuesday, neighbors came to celebrate the eco-friendly changes at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“This is keeping us where we can afford housing,” said tenant Diane McFeters.

That’s all possible from federal stimulus funding along with private sponsorships that those from the Champlain Housing Trust used to upgrade the complex.”

We have reduced the energy usage of these buildings by 30 percent,” said CEO of Champlain Housing Trust Brenda Torpy.

On the roofs of the apartments are solar panels, which will help neighbors save on their heating bills, too.”The other part we do that makes them very energy efficient… it’s nothing new and fancy but is adding to the insulation and higher energy efficiency windows,” Torpy said.

In addition, these apartments have a feature not common to any other apartments in the area, wood pellet boilers. Organizers of this project said they plan to buy local wood pellets to put in the boilers, which will heat both apartments and can make hot water.

“We expect to use about 45 tons of wood pellets the savings would be 60 percent given the price of propane today versus wood pellets today,” said Vermont Housing Representative Trevor Parsons.

If you are interested in living in one of these green units, call the Champlain Housing Trust at 527-2361 Ext. 110.”
