Landlord fees: City manager admits an error

“Municipal program would create, not add to inspection expenses

ST. ALBANS CITY –– The city manager here is taking full responsibility for misinformation he recently gave to local landlords about charges for inspection of rental dwellings.

Dominic Cloud said he apologizes if he gave the impression at the June 14 city council meeting that the city wants to assume the state’s inspection of rental properties because of hikes in state fees.

Affordable housing in Swanton expands

“Since 2002, Vermont’s Statewide Housing Conference has celebrated the achievements and service of individuals by recognizing them through the Housing Hero Award.

The conference committee is seeking nominations of individuals whose leadership, vision and actions have brought about positive and lasting change in the way their community or the state regards housing.

The most recent recipient was 2008’s Melinda Bussino of the Brattleboro Area Drop-In Center.”

Report: Vermont housing some of New England’s least affordable

“The New England Public Policy Center published a report this month that shows Vermont’s housing is some of the least affordable of all New England states.

Specifically, “young professionals”  25- to 39-year-olds, out of school, holding bachelor degrees or higher have a harder time affording housing in Vermont than in any other New England state. [More ...]

HUD Releases AHAR

On June 16, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the 2009 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress. According to the fifth annual report, levels of homelessness in the United States stayed essentially the same between 2008 and 2009. Data showed a ten percent reduction among people experiencing chronic homelessness, but a rise in the number of families seeking shelter. [More ...]
