Barre landlords targeted for lead paint

Forty-four landlords in Barre will have to prove they are keeping tenants safe from lead paint.

The Vermont Attorney General’s office is continuing its crackdown on rental properties that still have lead-based paints on the walls.

Landlords with pre-1978 housing must file paperwork every year, swearing they have kept up on essential maintenance.

The concern is that children will ingest cracked or peeling paint, and even tiny amounts of lead can affect brain development.”
